The Women’s and Children’s Hospital (WCH) is critical to South Australia, providing essential paediatrics health services to countless families. The Paediatric Emergency Department refurbishment is stage 1 of the $50 million Sustainment Project at the WCH.

The refurbishment portion of the ED incorporated improvements to triage, increased waiting spaces with interactive games, additional treatment bays for ambulance patients, treatment spaces, examination spaces including an extension and reconfiguration of the emergency care unit.

Understanding the critical importance to the WCH Sustainment Upgrade Project is to maintain the uninterrupted health service that is delivered 24hrs a day - 7 days a week.

With this at the forefront, the project team were committed to working collaboratively ensuring daily tasks were managed carefully, were well planned, well communicated and ensured minimal disruptions to patients and their families.

With stage 1 now complete, and the PED now open to the public, minor works will continue behind the scenes with stage two and three of the development. These works include an isolation room dedicated mental health assessment spaces, additional multi-purpose consultation spaces, support spaces, a patient bathroom and new staff work areas.

Mossop Construction + Interiors understands the importance of the WCH Sustainment Upgrade project and will continue to work to achieve “Best for Project’ outcomes by delivering the delivering the next stages of the project with the highest standards of safety, quality and time that is necessary and expected for this complex project.
