Playford International College STEM Upgrade

Construction

Client: Minister for Transport and Infrastructure
Duration: 36 Weeks
Delivery: AS2124-1992 (Amended)
Value: $2.2m

This project comprised of the construction of a new STEM Centre with linkages to the existing school buildings.  By connecting the opposite wings and establishing linkages with the adjacent science laboratories, Visual Arts Centre, classrooms and IT facilities, the new STEM Centre creates flexible, open learning environments. Works involved construction of new interconnected ‘wet’ and ‘dry’ labs, project rooms, associated support spaces, teacher preparation spaces, informal student breakout spaces and dedicated outdoor learning areas. A new stair case from the ground floor established the interconnection of ground and first floor learning spaces. It also served to create a double height space over the informal student breakout area with high level glazing to maximise natural light. The new flexible learning spaces will support the way the school will deliver education.

Challenges of this project included the removal of an existing oil tank and the integration of a complex mechanical system. Having worked previously with this project team on the original Playford International College redevelopment assisted in ensuring the school received the best possible outcome.
