Boandik Lodge is an aged care facility located in Mount Gambier, SA. The Mossop Mt Gambier team were engaged to construct a new two-storey Community and Wellbeing Centre at Boandik Lodge’s Lake Terrace site. The Centre features a hydrotherapy pool with an access ramp and lifting equipment, an over 50's gymnasium, treatment room, outdoor therapy rehabilitation area, changerooms and toilets, activity space with kitchen including disability access, IT hub, community offices and an outdoor gardening activity area.
The indoor pool works posed a few challenges for the team, careful considerations were made to ensure there was minimal disruption to the surrounding residents, staff and visitors.
Where ever possible, local trades were engaged for the construction of the Community Wellbeing Centre. Seventeen local companies were employed on the build covering more than 70% of the project work. Specialist trades from outside the region were only engaged for specific elements such as the construction of the hydrotherapy pool.
This project was very rewarding given it offered the opportunity to engage with residents whom were very interested in the progress of the building. The engagement with the Boandik community made the whole build a really interactive and enjoyable process for Mossop. An official walk through occurred mid-way through the construction period for interested stakeholders, residents, staff and community members. The feedback obtained was very positive and all were excited to offer these top class facilities to the local community.
The Community Wellbeing Centre was finished ahead of program, allowing Mossop to complete any defects and ensure the finish was to highest standard prior to official handover on the 11th February 2020.
