Port Augusta Prison Accommodation

Construction

Client: Department for Planning, Transport and Infrastructure
Duration: 19 Months
Delivery: AS 2124-1992 (Amended)
Value: $19.5m

This project involved the major accommodation addition project undertaken at Pt Augusta Prison for the client team in collaboration with DPTI.

The Early Works consisted of new temporary sally port, demolition works and access roads.

The Main Works Stage 1 consisted of the construction of 4 new 2-storey pre-cast structural steel, medium security 32 bed accommodation buildings (128 beds total), plus construction of new support building which included education facilities, officers station, medical treatment room and dispensary, undercover gym/recreation space and supplementary spaces. The works also involved associated landscaping works around a central courtyard area.

A new secure pedestrian entry was constructed at the front security reception and administration building. The project involved the upgrade of the electronic security from analogue to digital technology across the site.

The project was delivered on time and achieved all of the critical project objects while maintaining the operations and adhering to the stringent security requirements required while working within a fully operational prison environment. This could not have been achieved without the committed co-operation and collaboration of DCS staff at the Pt Augusta Prison and the Mossop team.
